Ep. 50 – Stay Frosty

by Tim on June 25th, 2006 with No Comments

Whew, that was a close one! Hi people, once again we bring you the creamy goodness that is The Widget. This week we give our review of the recently released Prey PC demo from our friends over at 3D Realms (sorry XBox folk), and so far… well, you have to listen. The upgrade bug is starting to get to Tim again, can he resist the temptation of the recent AMD price drops?!? We dare to ask the question; is BluRay really “all that”? Ryan gives us his review of his latest movie assignments, Bloodsport and Alien Quadrilogy. And we take a few pieces of mail regarding last weeks “too hot to handle” conversation. Lots of fun this week gang…

Ep. 48 – Episodic Content

by Tim on June 11th, 2006 with No Comments

Well gang, we’re back once again to bring you the latest happenings in the tech industry with our own personal flavor…. well, at least that’s the plan. See, this week was almost completely devoid of anything good to talk about. Oh sure, somebody crammed a Core 2 in the Mac Mini, and Net Neutrality took a bit of a blow, but other than that there wasn’t much. So what did we talk about? Random goodness of course! Ryan gives his report on the movies he was assigned to watch, we ramble a bit about stuff, and Jason announces a new contest that some of you may be VERY interested in…

Viewer mail, outtakes, and random topic throwing. It’s The Widget as you know it and love it. See you guys next week!

Widget TV Ep.1 : Tim’s Retro Corner

by Tim on June 6th, 2006 with No Comments

Time for another Widget grand experiment. Ever since we finished The Widget 2005 Videogame Awards Show, we’ve had various requests that basically all said the same thing; do more video! And why not? We have all this video equipment lying around, why not put it to good use? So we hatched an idea… and Widget TV was born!

Widget TV is everything you love (or hate) about the podcast, but instead of just talking about the weeks news, we also include sketches, reviews, and pretty much any geeked out things we want to film. But much like our podcast, it’s delivered with that special Widget twist.

In this first episode of Widget TV, we focus on what used to be a small segment of the audio show; Tim’s Retro Corner. And to kick things off, we talk about a system that’s near and dear to Tim’s small black heart. Yes folks, the Sega Genesis. So kick back, watch the video, and let us know what you think. We’ve got some great things planned for this new Widget TV project, and we’re looking for your feedback! Send over your suggestions, your comments, and your hate mail to the usual address; feedback (at) thewidgetshow.com (take that spambots!). Enjoy.

Ep. 47 – Speculation Central

by Tim on June 4th, 2006 with No Comments

Speculation. It is what drives the tech news industry most of the time. This week we talk about a lot of things that may or may not happen. Take for example the rumor that AMD may be in the works of purchasing ATI. Could it happen? Perhaps. Should it happen? That’s what we want to know. Sony says that the PS3 is going to render PCs obsolete. Is that even feasible, or is Sony just losing their mind? We also offer up our review of Half-Life 2 Episode 1, and let you know if it was worth the wait. But the big one this week was that we were wondering about the future of XBox Live Arcade. We know Street Fighter 2 is coming, but what else? Can we expect the service to just die off after such a stellar start? Our curiosity got the best of us, so we decided to make a phone call to Ross Erickson, the portfolio manager for XBox Live Arcade at Microsoft to find out…
